A group of neighbors in the Mendoza town of Guaymallén acted violently against a criminal who attempted to commit a robbery. The victim was identified as Hernán Cristian Báez Amarfily, 31 years old, who had an extensive criminal record. The incident took place in the Lihué neighborhood on Saturday night when he tried to enter a home with criminal intentions and was discovered by the residents.
The neighbors alerted the authorities and, while waiting for their arrival, subdued the criminal to prevent his escape. In the midst of the confusion, the residents began to brutally beat Amarfily until he was left unconscious on the ground. Despite attempts at resuscitation by emergency services, the man died at the scene.
After the tragic event, the authorities conducted the necessary investigations. The Guaymallén Criminal Investigation Unit, along with Homicides, Scientific, and Infantry personnel carried out the corresponding examinations. Initial reports concluded that Amarfily died from the injuries inflicted by the beating.
It was confirmed that the deceased had a criminal record for several offenses, including theft, assault, and illegal possession of firearms. The incident generated shock in the local community and rekindled the debate about security and vigilante justice in the region.
