Controversy Over Border Security in Aguas Blancas

In the midst of a controversy generated by the Salta Government's decision to erect a fence on the border with Bolivia, the intervenor of Aguas Blancas, Adrián Zigarín, justified the measure as an attempt to curb the expansion of the "narco-border." The migration office is located just 200 meters from the terminal, and according to Zigarín, many illegally cross by jumping over a small wall into Puerto Chalanas.

In response to criticisms from the Bolivian Foreign Ministry, Zigarín argued that the government of Luis Arce Catacora is misinformed and demanded a greater presence of customs and security personnel at the border. The growth of drug trafficking in Argentina is an increasing concern. The intervenor emphasized that this action is part of the Güemes Plan, designed to combat drug trafficking that affects various civil entities in the region.

The intervenor reported that the fence will extend for 200 meters from the town terminal to the migration office, with a height of two and a half meters. Zigarín explained in a radio interview that the situation in the area has become alarming, with reports of decapitated bodies and brutal executions, which led the governor to request federal assistance and implement the Güemes Plan alongside Minister Patricia Bullrich to address the situation.

Zigarín highlighted that the purpose of the fence is to prevent people from crossing into Bolivia without completing the required migration procedures. According to him, it is positive that attention is now being given to this issue, but since the start of the plan, two posts and integrated controls have been established, while Bolivia only has one official at the border. This lack of personnel, according to Zigarín, creates problems in border control.

The situation in Aguas Blancas reflects a growing concern for security in the region and the need to take effective measures to address drug trafficking that poses a threat to peace and order.
