The government led by Javier Milei is working on a bill aimed at eliminating what they call 'positive discrimination'. This would include the abolition of the femicide charge stipulated in the Argentine Penal Code. A source close to the presidential office argued that 'the State cannot take responsibility for every sector considered a minority', hinting at the official stance on woke ideology and radical feminism.
The project, titled 'Equality Before the Law', is being developed in detail by the Secretary of Strategic Planning, María Ibarzabal Murphy, and the team led by presidential advisor, Santiago Caputo. The intention is to repeal laws such as the Gender Identity law, some aspects of the Micaela Law, non-binary ID, the Law on the Promotion of Access to Formal Employment for Travestis, Transsexuals, and Transgender individuals, and the Law of Electoral Parity in Political Representation Areas, among other regulations.
Javier Milei expressed his desire to 'destroy criticism and dissent', and his team is working to fulfill this premise. The possibility of eliminating the classification of femicide has sparked controversy, especially considering alarming femicide statistics in Argentina.
Despite a woman being murdered for gender-related reasons every 29 hours in the country, the government seeks to eliminate the figure as an aggravating circumstance, arguing that it is 'madness to have a harsher penalty for homicide against a woman than for that against a man'. The intention is to settle historical inequalities, even considering the alarming femicide rates in recent years.
The debate on this bill will take place in Congress during the ordinary session period, with no specific dates determined. Despite the opposition's reluctance and possible criticism, the Government is determined to set the agenda and eliminate any ideological and discriminatory policies related to access to public jobs.
Although Milei has spoken out against legal abortion on previous occasions, his circle assures that the project does not contemplate the repeal of laws such as the Voluntary Termination of Pregnancy and the Equal Marriage law in Argentina.
