King Penguin Rescued in Buenos Aires

A king penguin was rescued in the Río de la Plata after being found stranded in Vicente López, far from its natural habitat. The penguin, a subantarctic species whose main colonies are on the South Georgia, Falkland, and South Sandwich Islands, was rescued by Civil Defense in collaboration with the Temaikén Foundation. According to a report by the Argentine News Agency, the animal was likely weakened after moulting and carried by currents into the river. It is currently being stabilized at the foundation's species recovery center, undergoing veterinary checks, hydration, and feeding. Once recovered, it will be released on the beaches of southern Buenos Aires province, a suitable feeding area from where it can return to its subantarctic colonies.
