Woman detained for daughter's murder in Argentina

A woman has been detained in the province of Santiago del Estero, accused of murdering her 9-year-old daughter after administering her clonazepam, a medication the woman used due to a history of psychiatric issues.

The discovery of the minor's body occurred this Thursday when the victim's grandparents went to the home and found her dead, prompting them to alert the authorities.

At the time of the incident, the girl was with her mother, who was arrested after authorities suspected that the night before, she had given her three clonazepam pills.

As the investigation continues and the results of the forensic examinations are released, it has been decided that the accused will remain in custody.

«The autopsy will be key to establishing the specific causes of death and, based on that, to directing the investigation,» stated the coordinating prosecutor, Natalia Saavedra, to local media.

In this regard, they also added that, at first glance, no signs of violence were observed on the body, but they are awaiting the necropsy, which is being performed this Friday at the Judicial Morgue.

For now, the case is being investigated under the charge of «qualified homicide due to the relationship,» although this may be modified.
