Importance of Sleep Health and Snoring

Specialist Facundo Nogueira warns about the risks of snoring and its relationship with sleep apnea, presenting tips to improve the quality of rest.

Importance of Sleep Health and Snoring

The pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist, Facundo Nogueira, warned about the risks of snoring and its relation to sleep apnea. According to the specialist, if one experiences sleep apnea, snoring can be dangerous. This disorder involves pauses in breathing during sleep, which can cause chronic fatigue, hypertension, and cardiovascular problems.

Nogueira highlighted that factors such as sleeping on one's back worsen breathing, as the weight of the tongue can obstruct the airway and cause snoring. He also pointed out that being overweight is one of the main risk factors for this condition. Factors such as stress, excessive screen use, and unhealthy habits have contributed to the increase in sleep disorders in recent years.

To improve sleep quality, the specialist recommended reducing exposure to LED screens before bed, as the blue light they emit can interfere with melatonin production, the sleep hormone. He also advised taking a hot water shower before going to bed, as this helps relax the body and facilitates falling asleep.

Regarding stress, Nogueira emphasized its importance, as accumulated tension can create a vicious cycle of poor rest. The expert warned that many people underestimate nighttime respiratory problems, which can lead to serious health consequences. Finally, he mentioned that poor rest is a widespread issue in the population, especially after the pandemic.

On the occasion of World Sleep Day celebrated this Friday, March 14, it is crucial to pay attention to the recommendations of experts like Nogueira to improve the quality of our rest and take care of our overall health.
