The former Boca goalkeeper, Hugo Orlando Gatti, has caused shock in the football world due to the worsening of his health condition in recent hours as a result of a respiratory issue. Gatti is hospitalized in intensive care following hip surgery. Over 20 days ago, 'Loco' suffered a fall while walking his dog, which led to him undergoing surgery on his hip.

His son Lucas had to travel from abroad to accompany his father during this difficult time. Hugo Gatti is recognized for his career at Boca, where he played 417 matches, becoming the goalkeeper with the most appearances at the club. During his career, he won the Copa Libertadores in 1977 and 1978, the Intercontinental Cup in 1977, and several local tournaments between 1976 and 1981.

After retiring, Gatti ventured into media programs and developed his own character on television. Regarding his health, Gatti mentioned: 'They told me I was close to dying.' Besides Boca, Gatti played for other teams such as River, Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, Unión de Santa Fe, and Atlanta.

Currently, the former goalkeeper is accompanied by his son Federico, who is in the country. These difficult moments add to the recent loss of his wife, Nacha, in 2024 after 54 years of marriage. Gatti also had a serious episode of COVID-19 in 2024 from which he was on the brink of death, as he himself told the media: 'I realized what was happening when they told me. In the hospital, they told me I was leaving tomorrow every day.'
