Significant Drug Bust in La Matanza

The Police of the Province of Buenos Aires carried out a routine operation in La Matanza, where they managed to seize 100 kilograms of marijuana packed in bricks. These types of interventions highlight the scale of the drug trafficking problem in Argentina, where corruption in security forces and customs allows large quantities of drugs to circulate through the country bound for Europe.

Those involved in this case attempted to evade police control when intercepted in a gray Renault Logan vehicle. According to reports, approximately 30% of the cocaine that travels through Argentina to Europe stays in the country due to prevailing corruption. Although this seizure of marijuana is significant, it is just a fraction of a much broader and more complex illicit trade.

At the site of the operation, a plot of 200 x 100 meters of marijuana was found in General Rodríguez. Provincial and national authorities were not informed about this. Following the swift action of the officers, two men aged 35 and 37 were arrested for the crime of drug transportation.

It is important to note that, despite this seizure, the amount of drugs seized is minimal compared to what enters from Paraguay or is produced in clandestine plantations in the Province of Buenos Aires. These figures reflect the ongoing challenge that drug trafficking represents in the country.
