A group of health workers affiliated with the Association of State Workers (ATE) plans to hold a symbolic embrace at the Ministry of Health of the Nation as a protest against the more than 360 layoffs that have taken place recently. These layoffs have raised concerns among the affected individuals and their colleagues, as key medical care services and the distribution of medicines in hospitals throughout Argentina are under threat.
The dismissed workers, who had already passed a competency exam required by the Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation, have been described by their peers as committed and dedicated individuals in a historically disadvantaged healthcare system. There are fears that staffing cuts will adversely affect the system's ability to provide essential services, such as widespread vaccination and treatment for critical diseases like HIV, hepatitis, and tuberculosis.
The demonstration is scheduled for tomorrow at 11 a.m. outside the Ministry of Health of the Nation, and health workers, patients, and representatives from various entities related to medical care are expected to attend. Through this action, the organizers aim to draw attention to the negative consequences of mass layoffs in the health sector and emphasize the vital importance of maintaining adequate and well-trained staff to ensure public health in the country.
