In recent days, the wildfires in Epuyén, Chubut, and in the Nahuel Huapi National Park in Bariloche have continued to spread due to the wind. In Epuyén, more than 5,000 hectares of forests, shrubs, and grasslands have been devoured by the flames, while it is estimated that around 11,000 hectares have been consumed in total between both places, severely affecting about 70 homes.
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has forecasted a maximum temperature of 18 degrees for today, with a warning that wind gusts of over 55 kilometers per hour could be recorded, complicating the work of emergency teams. Although those responsible for starting the fires have not yet been identified, the Minister of Security and Justice of Chubut, Héctor Iturrioz, confirmed in a press conference that they were intentionally set, endangering thousands of people.
In the Nahuel Huapi National Park, the fire remains active and has already consumed approximately 6,000 hectares, showing no signs of yielding. Adverse weather conditions, such as wind gusts of more than 50 kilometers per hour, are worsening the situation, making it difficult to contain the flames. Local authorities have made the decision to restrict nautical activities in the lakes close to the fire to allow aerial teams to refill water in the area, in an effort to control the spread of the fire and protect the affected population.
