Strong Storm in Tucuman Causes Flooding and Isolates Families

The strong storm that hit the province of Tucuman in recent hours has caused an extremely serious situation in the southern part of the province, where several families were trapped inside their completely flooded homes in the Santa Rosa de Aguilares area. Neighbors, submerged in desperation as the water advanced uncontrollably, requested boats and any type of watercraft to assist and evacuate those who were isolated with no possibility of leaving on their own. 'The area most affected is La Calera. The road is cut off and we have a river overflow from the Medina River,' described the mayor, who confirmed that the violence of the Chirimayo River's current undermined the main bridge in Alpachiri, leaving National Route 65 completely interrupted. Meanwhile, in Villa Quinteros and in the Chicligasta department, water entered homes and significant rises were reported in the Barrientos stream, further complicating the rescue scenario. In San Miguel de Tucumán, the provincial capital, the consequences of the meteorological phenomenon were also felt, with severe flooding in the north and south sectors, especially in the area of the Bus Terminal on Brigido Terán Avenue. The Provincial Directorate of Roads reported that traffic was also blocked on Route 307, where intense rainfall caused the displacement of material and sediments that obstructed the roadway in various sections. 'The Chirimayo River's rise has been very strong... it has overturned many trees and broken all the defenses on the town's side,' he stated, detailing that the phenomenon was fueled by torrential rains in the high areas of Las Estancias, which generated a 'terrible scare' for the area's inhabitants.
