Fires in Chubut Province Brought Under Control

Authorities in Chubut confirmed on Thursday that the fire in Puerto Patriada is completely under control, while in Los Alerces National Park it has been contained. This achievement is thanks to the work of firefighters, aided by rain and even some snowfall over the past few days. Therefore, the work currently being carried out includes preventive patrols in areas that were previously hot spots before the precipitation. So far, the fire in Puerto Patriada has consumed an estimated area of 30,700 hectares, which include various species such as shrubland, planted forest, and native forest. Similarly, the latest report from the Provincial Fire Management Service (SNMF), dependent on the Secretariat of Forests, had already confirmed significant progress in fighting the fire in that sector, in the west of Chubut province. In Los Alerces National Park, where 26,000 hectares have already burned, the situation has also improved noticeably, favored by the climate, which also facilitated the work of the firefighters, who managed to contain the flames for the time being. On Thursday, and as learned by the Argentine News Agency, aerial assets remained on standby and no thermal anomalies were registered; in addition, minimal patrols were maintained in the different sectors, with ground and air resources in a state of permanent alert. Meanwhile, at the El Tigre-Lago Cholila estuary, the focus remains active and has consumed a little more than 200 hectares, and according to the official SNMF report, 'No reactivations have been reported, nor have thermal anomalies been detected,' the official report noted. Consequently, work continued and as of this afternoon, no activations had been registered, which is a good sign for the definitive containment of the flames.
