Rain in Chubut Brings Relief After Major Wildfires

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported rain for the entire day in Chubut province, where there is a blackout due to the serious situation the province has been facing with forest fires for days. With a low of 6 degrees and a high of 18, there will be isolated heavy rain throughout this Wednesday, also with gusts of nearly 90 km/h, and this same situation will be repeated until Thursday morning. More than a week after the start of the fires in Puerto Patriada and the fire in Los Alerces National Park for over a month, the rainfall expected on Wednesday is expected to bring relief to firefighters and brigades. In the area, more than 12,000 hectares have already been affected, and despite the news of the rain, the authorities of the SMN and the National Fire Management Service report that the fire index in the province is still extreme, as confirmed by the Argentine News Agency. In recent hours, the Deliberative Council of Epuyén approved Ordinance No. 1388/2026, which officially declares a fire catastrophe on municipal land. This measure allows for a more efficient response to the urgent needs of the population, from the reconstruction of homes to the medical and social assistance required in the area.
