Rescue Operation in Mar Chiquita Lagoon After Sudden Water Surge

On Monday afternoon, a sudden rise in water levels on the Buenos Aires coast led to a high-tension rescue operation in the Mar Chiquita lagoon. According to the Argentine News Agency, the incident occurred around 4:20 PM when a large wave unexpectedly entered and drastically increased the water flow in an area frequented by families. As the water advanced suddenly, lifeguards began immediate evacuation orders, shouting, 'Don't go into the water!' In that scenario, a man of about 30 years was swept away by the current and lost control, nearly drowning. Witnesses described moments of extreme anxiety as emergency teams worked against the clock to assist the swimmer in an area that became treacherous in seconds. After being removed from the water, security personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the sand before he was urgently transferred to a medical center. The 0223 portal reported that the critical situation was caused by a combination of the tidal wave and the particular geography of the lagoon, where the clash of waters created whirlpools and an unexpected suction.
