Mini-Tsunami Hits Argentine Coast

Buenos Aires, Jan 12 (NA) – Tourists spending their summer on the Atlantic coast have described a “mini” tsunami in Santa Clara del Mar, a peaceful locality of 5,000 inhabitants located just 20 kilometers from Mar del Plata. According to the Argentine News Agency, eyewitnesses who reported the incident were spending the afternoon at California Beach when the sea receded unusually, giving way to a series of “giant” waves not typically seen in the area. The situation caught tourists off guard: the tide rose and carried away bags, beach chairs, and umbrellas. Even those present on the beach had to grab their dogs to prevent them from being taken by the sea. So far, there are no reports of fatalities, and the police, along with an ambulance, are working in the area to assist the injured after this strange event. Santa Clara del Mar is a peaceful coastal resort town that usually has a calm and pleasant sea, so this situation surprised everyone. This phenomenon also hit Mar del Plata, but for now, it is unknown if this phenomenon occurred in nearby localities on the Atlantic Coast. The X user Alexia (@pacapaquitaa) posted about this phenomenon: “In Santa Clara del Mar, I was scared to death of my life. There are injured people and many have been rescued.” Those who were swimming had to help each other to avoid drowning.
