Major forest fire in Patagonia threatens communities

A major forest fire in southern Argentina has burned through more than 5,500 hectares of land, with hundreds of firefighters and volunteers trying to contain the flames threatening small communities. A new fire breaks out every five minutes. Flavia Provoni, a resident of the area, posted on Instagram: 'There are no words to describe what we are experiencing'. Ignacio Torres, governor of the neighboring province of Chubut, said in a social media post that 5,500 hectares had burned, warning: 'It's hell'. The fire started on Monday in Puerto Patriada, about 1,700 km southwest of Buenos Aires, in the Patagonia region. Since then, it has surrounded the town of Epuyen, which has a population of 2,000.
