Forest Fire in Chubut Province

A forest fire affecting the area of El Turbio, in the northwest of Chubut, remains active, although firefighters have managed to contain some hotspots in the last few hours amid strong gusts of wind that have hampered efforts. The Provincial Fire Management Service (SPMF), dependent on the Secretariat of Forests, confirmed significant progress in containment tasks, caused by fires that originated on December 1st following a severe thunderstorm. In fact, firefighters have managed to contain the left flank and part of the head of the fire, an important progress in the operation; however, control tasks remain complex due to the presence of heavy vegetation, irregular topography, and access difficulties, factors that also compromise the safety of the personnel. Meanwhile, and as learned by the Argentine News Agency (NA), to date the flames have affected about 3,000 hectares of native forest and scrubland in the El Turbio area, near Lago Puelo and on the border with Chile. In the deployment, numerous provincial and national areas participate, along with security forces, health services, and local residents, in a coordinated effort to prevent the spread of the fire. The operation involves firefighters from the bases of Golondrinas, Lago Puelo, El Turbio, El Maitén, and Epuyén, along with the Southern Brigade of the National Fire Management Service (SNMF) and the ICE of Lago Puelo National Park.
