Authorities confirmed on Thursday that forest fires that originated in Lago Puelo, in the northwest of Chubut province, have already consumed about 3,000 hectares of native forest. The fire outbreaks began at the beginning of this month as a result of a severe electrical storm in the area of El Turbio, near the border with Chile, a sector with difficult access that hinders the work of firefighters. According to that report, weather conditions facilitated the operation of a helicopter used to transport firefighters, equipment, and water drops, a combination that reinforced tasks in areas of greatest activity. The planned work of firefighters will continue this Friday with new actions aimed at sustaining what has been achieved and advancing in less accessible areas, although a yellow alert for strong winds - from the west - could interfere with these tasks. Aerial resources were also unable to approach due to smoke and poor visibility. Nevertheless, official reports from the Provincial Fire Management Service (SPMF) in recent hours described a more favorable picture. The technical report confirmed that the fire, detected on December 1, remains active, but the tasks carried out during the day yielded positive results in some specific areas.
