An 18-year-old girl was found dead in the province of Santiago del Estero, and authorities are investigating two hypotheses. In the ongoing investigation, one person has been detained who claimed to have been with the victim but has distanced himself from the incident.
Emilse Camila Barrera was found dead this weekend in an unpopulated area near National Route 157. Since then, prosecutor Natalia Simoes has ordered various operations to find out what happened to the young woman.
Barrera's body was found by a man who was wandering in the area, who immediately alerted 911, which led to a major procedure to determine if the death was accidental or a crime.
Although the preliminary results of the autopsy are still pending, local media reported that the victim had a blow to the head.
Now, the investigation is focused on analyzing security camera footage, communications, and social media to track the young woman's movements.
Additionally, authorities reported that there is a detainee in the case. It is a man identified as R.P., who admitted to having met with Barrera before the incident, but due to various inconsistencies, it was decided that he should remain in custody.
The other line of investigation involves a woman who would be in charge of finding clients for the victim for sexual encounters.
