A group of 10 students from the Technological Institute of Buenos Aires (ITBA) will participate in an international aerospace competition in Virginia, United States, from June 6 to 8. The team designed, will build, and launch a satellite the size of a soda can representing Argentina in CanSat 2025, an event organized by the American Astronautical Society (AAS) with support from NASA, Lockheed Martin, and Siemens, among others.

CanSat combines the words "can" (Can) and "satellite" (Sat) in English. The satellite created by the students must carry out a simulated flight mission that includes controlled descent, real-time data transmission, and audiovisual recording from the air. This device has several subsystems, such as mechanical, communication, sensors, propellers, and square 9V batteries, and must be capable of collecting data during its drone launch at 400 meters above the ground and returning safely.

In the first technical stage of the competition, the team achieved a score of 99%, placing them among the top five worldwide and securing their participation in the final phase. Santiago Bolzicco, an Industrial Engineering student and team leader, stated: “We have a team that is abundant in creativity, knowledge, and persistence. We are very excited and have high expectations for the competition.”

This Argentine team has stood out for its achievements in previous aerospace competitions. In the last edition, ITBA reached 5th place globally, being the only country in Latin America with its own nationally manufactured satellites. The institution has notable experience in CanSat, having participated in the 2021, 2022, and 2024 editions.
