Antonio Gasalla: A Cultural Icon of Argentina

Antonio Gasalla, known for his iconic characters in theater and television, began his career with great success in 1988 on ATC with his show "The World of Antonio Gasalla." There he presented characters like "The Grandmother" and "The Public Employee."

Gasalla received several Martín Fierro awards throughout his career, notably the Gold award in 1995. Born on March 9, 1941, he knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue acting.

He studied at the National School of Dramatic Arts where he met his partner Carlos Perciavalle. Together they starred in successful theatrical productions like "Bread and Circus" and "Gasalla is the Maipo and The Maipo is Gasalla."

In 1985, Gasalla starred in the film "Waiting for the Hearse," which became a national classic. His foray into cinema was not as successful as in theater and television, where he captivated audiences with his humor in shows like Susana Giménez's.

Throughout his career, Gasalla garnered praise and awards. In 2023 he received the Martín Fierro for Career Achievement, although his health prevented him from attending the ceremony. In 2019 he performed his last theatrical work, and in 2020 he announced his retirement due to early symptoms of senile dementia. Admired and remembered by several generations, Gasalla became an icon of Argentine culture.
