In the midst of the wildfires affecting the region since mid-December of last year, the residents of the town of El Manso, located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park in Río Negro, expressed their desperation over the lack of resources. "We need more resources because we are going to lose everything," they stated.
The fire has affected hard-to-reach areas, highlighting the importance of having the help of planes and helicopters to combat the flames. Despite the scarcity of resources, as many helpers have been allocated to other fires in the region, authorities have indicated that the weather conditions do not favor firefighting efforts.
The most affected areas in Nahuel Huapi National Park are the Cascada Los Alerces, Los Manzanos, and El Manso. It is expected that temperatures will not be high throughout the week, with gusts of wind forecasted for Wednesday night according to the National Meteorological Service.
In response to the lack of resources and the concern over the advance of the fire, which has consumed more than 11,000 hectares since mid-December 2024, more than 40 residents of El Manso blocked provincial route 83 seeking greater support. "We are abandoned, we open the curtains and can see the flames," the residents expressed to local media, emphasizing their feeling of helplessness. The work of firefighters and brigadiers continues in the area to combat the fire, while the local community calls for an urgent response to this emergency.
