Argentina to Eliminate Import Taxes from December

The government of Javier Milei announced on Friday the elimination of taxes for purchases abroad starting in December. According to presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni, this measure aims to allow Argentinians to import products at a better price. Specifically, the removal of the tax will benefit sectors such as technology and the textile industry.

"It is important that all Argentinians can buy abroad, even if they do not have the means to travel there," Adorni emphasized. He added that it is necessary to avoid situations such as buying airline tickets to acquire cheaper products or having to cross borders in search of better prices.

Economy Minister Luis Caputo clarified that the measure covers imports via courier up to 3,000 dollars. This implies the possibility of making simple purchases through platforms like Amazon, AliExpress, or eBay, using courier services like FedEx or UPS.

"Starting in December, we will expand the limit for occasional import shipments to 3,000 USD per package, with an exemption from tariffs up to 400 USD for personal use imports, where only VAT will be paid," Caputo specified. The goal is to provide access to more competitive prices for everyone, not just for those who can travel abroad to shop.

With these measures, it is expected that millions of citizens will have the freedom to decide what and where to buy, receiving products at their homes. This initiative aims to expand the offer for everyone, especially with the holidays approaching.
