The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) has announced the issuance of the new $20,000 bill, which will be available at branches and ATMs starting tomorrow. This measure is part of the introduction of higher denomination bills and effective monetary programming, which has allowed for a reduction in direct costs for the BCRA and the operational costs of the financial system as a whole.
According to the monetary entity, the introduction of higher value bills facilitates cash management, as it requires printing fewer bills to meet societal demand. Some financial institutions propose that the Central Bank allow the withdrawal of lower denomination bills in favor of the $20,000 bills.
The implementation process of the new bill has been carried out in collaboration with financial institutions, which have integrated the bill into ATMs prior to its official circulation. According to the BCRA's statement, the acquisition of the new bills through competitive international tenders has significantly reduced production costs.
The $20,000 bill features strict security measures, such as a watermark with the portrait of Juan Bautista Alberdi, a windowed security thread, and optical variable ink, among other features. Thus, the highest denomination bill addresses logistical and storage issues for various economic actors in Argentina.
With the distribution of this bill, the "Heroines and Heroes of the Homeland" family created in 2022 is complete. The front of the bill displays the image of Juan Bautista Alberdi, with design elements that create a dynamic effect when moved. Additionally, the BCRA highlights the incorporation of identifications for visually impaired individuals on the $20,000 bill.
