The national government of Argentina formalized the adhesion of Mexico to its Open Skies policy through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. With this incorporation, Mexico becomes the ninth country to join this measure aimed at increasing flight frequencies between both nations, boosting tourism, and attracting investments to the air sector.
According to officials from the Ministry of Transportation, this agreement will allow airlines to operate without restrictions on the number of flights, enhancing the competitiveness of the sector. Previously, it was governed by a system of restricted frequencies with a limit of 14 weekly flights and 2 frequencies for exclusive cargo flights, a change that is considered essential to adapt to market conditions and times of the year.
The signing of the Memorandum also facilitates the possibility of code-sharing agreements between airlines, as well as the elimination of restrictions on irregular cargo flights, allowing them to operate under the 'seventh freedom of the air,' meaning without the obligation to start or end in the country of origin.
The Secretary of Transportation of the Nation, Franco Mogetta, and the General Director of the Federal Civil Aviation Agency of Mexico, Dr. Miguel Enrique Vallin Osuna, were responsible for formalizing this agreement. Representatives from both embassies and the Argentine Foreign Ministry also participated in the signing.
This action adds to the deregulation initiatives of the air sector proposed by the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation, in order to simplify procedures and promote a more efficient and competitive environment for airlines from both countries.
