End of the First Stage of Money Laundering

The first stage of money laundering ends this Thursday, October 31. Starting tomorrow, it will no longer be possible to regularize more cash, as the Government has not established a new extension. Initially, the deadline for this stage was set for September 30, but it was extended to October, with today as the final date.

In this sense, the last hours are crucial for taxpayers to deposit cash into the special CERA account. Before doing so, they must make a declaration of adherence and complete the process by submitting a sworn statement along with the corresponding documentation, with November 30 being the deadline for this.

According to data from the Central Bank (BCRA), the regularization has received positive feedback, with cash deposits in banks exceeding US$15 billion. The deadline to submit the sworn statement and complete the payment extends until February 28, 2025.

The third stage of the regularization will take place from February 1 to April 31, 2025, with a deadline for the submission of declarations and payment of the tax rate until May 31. These results represent double what was obtained during Mauricio Macri's administration in 2016.

The rates to be paid for regularized assets vary in each stage. Stage 1 involves a 5%, Stage 2 a 10%, and Stage 3 a 15%. There is a possibility that the Executive will extend the regularization until July 31, 2025. Regarding cash assets, there are no penalties for the declaration of up to US$100,000.

It is important to highlight that if a taxpayer makes declarations in more than one stage, the last one will be considered as the stage for calculating the rates. The period for making the declaration and advance payment in stage two spans from November 1 to January 31. During the first stage, both cash and assets are allowed to be declared.
