
In the morning hours of this Tuesday, provincial government authorities met with managers of the Newmont Cerro Negro company. The purpose of the meeting was to analyze the progress in the corrective actions demanded regarding safety and hygiene measures, hiring local labor, and contracting Santa Cruz suppliers at the site operating near the city of Perito Moreno.
Oscar Vera, the executive director of the Santa Cruz Public Revenue Administration; Adrián Hamer; and the Commissioner of the Fire Superintendency, Pedro Muñoz, were present at the meeting. From Newmont, Marcelo Campos, Ignacio Poggi, Rodrigo Caballe, Gustavo Villafañe, María Eugenia Sampalione, and Pablo Sampallo attended. Alejandro Mendoza and Guillermo Moretti also attended representing the Chamber of Suppliers of Inputs and Service Providers of the Energy, Mining, and Environmental sectors.
During the meeting, it was reported that each government entity outlined the requirements made to the company, after conducting inspections, for which they have not yet received concrete responses. Discussions were held on how to articulate joint work between the State and the operating company, but it was emphasized that they are still waiting for specific responses. It was agreed to call for a next meeting in the coming weeks, where the established violations will be evaluated.
The ministers of Energy and Mining, Jaime Álvarez, and of Security, Pedro Prodromos, as well as the state secretaries of Mining, Nadia Ricci, and of Labor, Javier Aravena, participated in the meeting. The president of the Board of FOMICRUZ S.E. was also present.
