The national senators of the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) from Mendoza, Mariana Juri and Rodolfo Suárez, have presented a project to the Mendoza governor, Alfredo Cornejo. In this project, they request that the national government return to the provinces 1.9% of shared taxes that the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP) used to allocate for their financing.
The senators argue that during the 2023 fiscal year, the AFIP withheld the sum of $643 billion, equivalent to 0.34% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). According to them, the funds withheld by the AFIP made this agency not just another entity but the fourth most important province in the distribution of shared money.
In the proposed project, the redistribution of funds withheld by the AFIP among all provincial jurisdictions is suggested. The senators compare the expenses of the AFIP with other national agencies, highlighting that the organization's expenditure in 2022 ($331 billion) is significantly greater than the expenditure of Conicet ($80 billion) and reaches half of the combined expenditure of all Argentine national universities ($599 billion).
For this reason, in Article 2 of the project, the Executive is requested to immediately implement the inclusion and distribution of the shared resources withheld by the AFIP among the provinces. These resources were deducted from federal tax sharing through the National Executive Power Decree No. 1399 in order to finance the operations of the AFIP.
