The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, participated in various activities related to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, where he highlighted the importance of reviewing charge and surcharge policies. He considered that this step reflects a good disposition from the Fund towards Argentina and emphasized the reduction of inflation in the country thanks to measures to address the fiscal deficit and social protection programs.
During the day, Caputo signed the Amendment Protocol to the Agreement to Avoid Double Taxation with Luxembourg, seeking strategies aimed at sustainable and lasting growth. He highlighted the structural reforms in Argentina that favor investments and energize the economy, emphasizing the vital role of the World Bank in consolidating these reforms.
Regarding the high cost of loans, Caputo considered it an obstacle to development and appreciated the adjustments in the IBRD's pricing structure. He raised the importance of continuing to work to keep loan costs affordable, as otherwise it would limit the capacity to finance essential projects and reforms.
The amendment to the agreement with Luxembourg will allow the alignment of Argentine tax policy with existing agreements for its approval in Congress. Caputo was also present at the World Bank Development Committee meeting, where consensus among governments on development issues is promoted.
In other activities, Caputo participated in the restricted breakfast and the Plenary of the International Monetary and Financial Committee, where the global economic outlook and the IMF's Global Policy Agenda were discussed. He emphasized the importance of reviewing fiscal situations internationally and the need for the IMF to respond swiftly and effectively to current needs.
