The government has announced the creation of the Tax Collection and Customs Control Agency (ARCA), an entity focused on modernizing technological processes and automation to improve efficiency and transparency in tax and customs management. According to government spokespersons, ARCA will take on the key functions of the Federal Administration of Public Revenues (AFIP).
One of ARCA's main objectives is to simplify tax management by facilitating procedures, speeding up processes, and reducing bureaucracy through digitized systems. Additionally, it will focus on technological modernization, seeking to automate collection and control procedures to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Furthermore, the new agency will be responsible for optimizing customs control at ports and borders to ensure transparency in foreign trade.
Javier Milei's government, under its focus on economic liberalization and reducing the state structure, argues that the creation of ARCA responds to the need to make the tax and collection system more efficient and modern. Milei has pointed out that the AFIP had become excessively bureaucratic and costly, affecting the country's economic competitiveness. By dissolving the AFIP and establishing ARCA, the government aims to reduce expenses in the state apparatus and make the collection system more accessible.
Following the announcement, the issue of the internet domain for ARCA arose, given that the domain "arca.gob.ar" is currently registered and in use by the Catamarca Collection Agency. Although no official announcement has been made regarding the domain name that the new federal ARCA will use on the internet, there is consideration of seeking a variation within the gob.ar domain or negotiating with the government of Catamarca to obtain the rights to the current domain.
The AFIP has been the main tax collection authority in Argentina since 1997, performing critical functions in the management of internal taxes, social security resources, and customs control.
