Fuel sales across the country reached 1,299,600 cubic meters in February, representing a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%. This was the 'worst February since 2021' in terms of volume sold, noted the consultancy Politikón Chaco, based on official records. Gasoline consumption fell by 0.1% year-on-year, while diesel fuel saw a decline of 3.8%. In the gasoline segment, sales of the super variety dropped by 2.1%, while premium rose by 5.5%. Regarding diesel, the common type fell by 10.4%, while the premium version increased by 6.6%. The information received by Agencia Noticias Argentinas is based on data from the National Energy Secretariat. The study indicates that the diesel market's performance was affected by the common segment, and the dynamism of the premium segment 'was not enough to drive the overall result' for the product. In the corporate market, YPF concentrated 56% of total sales and recorded a year-on-year growth of 1.2%. Shell, for its part, held 22.3% of the market with a 5.1% year-on-year drop in sales, while Axion accounted for 12% of the traded volume with a 2.1% decrease. Puma Energy had a 5.3% share and a 13.5% drop. Geographically, only four of the country's 24 jurisdictions showed year-on-year increases in February: Río Negro (+3.8%), Buenos Aires (+1.6%), San Juan (+1.0%), and Santa Fe (+0.7%). In the remaining 20 districts, declines were recorded, with the deepest observed in Misiones (-10.1%) and Corrientes (-13.5%). In the accumulated total for the first two months of 2026, total sales show a 0.7% decline compared to the same period in 2025. This accumulated decline is driven by diesel (-2.4%) and slightly offset by gasoline (+0.4%).
