Argentina Designates CJNG as Terrorist Organization

The Argentine government, led by Javier Milei, has classified the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) as a terrorist organization. This decision reflects an alignment with the policies previously adopted by the Donald Trump administration in the United States. As part of this commitment to counter-terrorism and its financing, the CJNG has been incorporated into the Public Registry of Persons and Entities linked to Acts of Terrorism and its Financing (RePET). This classification enables the application of financial sanctions and operational restrictions aimed at limiting the group's and its members' capabilities. It also seeks to protect the Argentine financial system from potential illicit use related to the financing of criminal activities. The CJNG emerged in 2010. These decisions are based on official criteria from reports indicating links to illicit activities, terrorism financing, and international operations. Its main leader was Nemesio Oseguera, 'El Mencho', who died on February 22 during an operation to capture him.
