New Red SUBE Discount Rules in Buenos Aires

The Argentine government has clarified the rules of the Red SUBE system, which offers discounts on public transport in the AMBA. Learn which routes retain discounts, which have been cancelled, and how to make transfers correctly to benefit from the fare reduction.

New Red SUBE Discount Rules in Buenos Aires

The government has reminded the public of the details and limitations of the Red SUBE system, which automatically applies discounts to passengers making public transport transfers within the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) within a 2-hour window. The discount system remains in effect, but with important changes. How it works: a 50% discount is applied to the second trip, and 75% to the third and subsequent trips. However, this rule only applies when transferring between authorized transport modes. If a third national transport mode is used, the discount will be 50% (not 75%), as the provincial trip 'does not count' for the Red SUBE network. This benefit is exclusive to users with a registered SUBE card and does not cover all bus lines. The discounts remain in place for the following services: trains and subways, as well as CABA and AMBA national bus lines. However, discounts no longer apply to provincial (lines 200-499) and municipal (lines 500 and above) buses. This affects the final fare calculation when mixing jurisdictions. For example, if you take a provincial bus (100% fare) and then a national train or bus, the second trip will have a 50% discount. But if you start with a national transport and then switch to a provincial one, the second ticket is paid in full, as provincial lines do not accept the benefit.
