The governor of Salta, Gustavo Sáenz, denounced on Sunday threats against Peronist legislators who vote in favor of the labor reform and stated that they could intervene in the PJ in their provinces, as happened in Salta, Misiones, and Jujuy. In a television interview, Sáenz affirmed: “There are governors, senators, and deputies who have even been threatened, being told that they were going to intervene in the Justicialist Party in their districts, according to how the legislators voted that day, knowing that the PJ is the only electoral tool they have in their provinces”. According to what the Argentine News Agency could find out, the governor's statements are framed in his confrontation with the national leadership of the Justicialist Party, led by Cristina Kirchner, which intensified at the end of December with the sanctioning of the Jujuy senator Carolina Moisés for supporting the 2026 Budget. Moisés, together with Guillermo Andrada (Catamarca), Sandra Mendoza (La Rioja), Jesús Rejal (La Rioja), and Fernando Salino (San Luis), is part of the Federal Conviction block, which in turn is part of the justicialist inter-block chaired by the Formosan José Mayans, vice president of the national PJ. “Intransigent rhetoric does not defend the worker, it defends the privileges of those who are in politics and the representatives of the workers. We do not accept the chapter on Profits, revenue has decreased, coparticipation has fallen, and we are offering alternatives,” he concluded. Sáenz took advantage of the interview to demand definitions from the national government regarding the fiscal chapter of the labor reform project, questioned by provincial governors. “When they have to vote, they pressure them, they threaten them. They take away the electoral tool they have”. He also emphasized: “It is very difficult to work like that. The fault that the macroeconomy is fine, but the microeconomy is not working is not of the governors, the fall in consumption is real,” he said. The governor pointed out that since Friday the provinces have been waiting for a response from the Casa Rosada regarding the fiscal scheme of the initiative, particularly the elimination of the Profits tax for large companies, which affects coparticipation. “But I represent all Salteños,” expressed Sáenz. “We want them to listen to us”.
