Buenos Aires Government Eliminates Subsidies for Gated Communities

The government of the Province of Buenos Aires (PBA) announced today the elimination of energy subsidies for users living in gated communities. This measure, effective from next January, will affect 79,500 users, divided into two groups: 66,900 in the Greater Buenos Aires (GBA) area and 12,600 in the interior of PBA. According to Minister Carlos Bianco, the new system aims to optimize the criteria for inclusion and exclusion from the subsidy program and adapt it to changes at the national level. He also noted that areas with lower incomes will continue to receive government assistance, but to access the social tariff, users must register in the corresponding registry. In November, the government presented a new subsidy scheme focused on vulnerable households, which will replace the current three-tier system with a two-tier one: for households with incomes below three basic consumption baskets and for households with higher incomes, who will not receive assistance.
