Argentine Minister of the Interior Travels to Province for Labor Reform Talks

Argentina's Minister of the Interior, Diego Santilli, will visit the province of Corrientes this Friday to meet with Governor Juan Pablo Valdés. The visit is part of a round of talks aimed at building consensus to approve the labor reform. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), the official will travel the day after a political commission meets to respond to the request from Patagonian provincial leaders who are calling for the passage of the Wildfire Emergency Law. As reported by NA, sources within the Executive branch revealed that there is a strong chance of moving forward with the request, although the format is still under debate. In parallel, the former PRO legislator is resuming rounds of contact with provincial representatives to advance the approval of the labor modernization bill, which is a key priority for President Javier Milei. From the ministry, they stated that during the exchange, the Executive's representative intends to 'make progress in the approval of the labor reform, the Glacier Law, the agreement with Mercosur, and the juvenile penal law.' The chief negotiator has resumed a practice he initiated in December to secure the passage of the 2026 Budget and the Tax Innocence Law, replicating it in the first days of the year. Until then, he has met with Ignacio Torres, visiting the areas affected by the forest fire in Chubut; with Leandro Zdero in Chaco; with Alfredo Cornejo in Mendoza; with Marcelo Orrego in San Juan; with Rogelio Frigerio in Entre Ríos; and received Neuquén's Rolando Figueroa. The truth is that a portion of the allied governors are showing reluctance to the tax articles of the reform, especially the reduction in the Profit Tax for corporations, which will affect provincial revenue. The point is debated by the tight circle of officials and legislators appointed to synthesize the decisions.
