Argentina Allocates Over $100 Billion for Wildfire Response

Amid the wildfires in Patagonia, the National Government confirmed it will allocate over $100 billion to the Volunteer Fire Associations for the purchase of equipment, materials, and other items for firefighting and civil protection. This was announced through Resolution 91/2026, published in the Official Gazette. The funds will be received by the Volunteer Fire Associations at all levels, the Federal Emergency Agency, and the Council of Volunteer Fire Federations from the Ministry of National Security for the acquisition of firefighting elements. The funds are intended for the purchase of equipment, materials, protective gear, and other items for firefighting and civil protection, as well as for their conservation and maintenance. Associations at the first level will receive a sum of $100,810,319,998.50, distributed among the 1,062 entities, with each one receiving $94,924,971.75. Provincial second-level entities will receive $7,754,639,995.93, distributed proportionally according to the number of affiliated members reported by each Federation. The Federal Emergency Agency will receive $2,584,880,009.64, and the Council of Volunteer Fire Federations, as a third-level entity, will receive $7,754,640,000.00. The National Directorate of Volunteer Firefighters will submit the list of beneficiary institutions to the Undersecretariat of Administrative Management of the Ministry of National Security for the respective transfers. Payments will be made based on the income recorded in the collection account of the Banco de la Nación Argentina, subject to the formal submission of financial reports by each entity. Each entity must also present and keep up-to-date all documentation required by the National Volunteer Fire System's Subsidy Accounting Manual. In case of administrative or operational irregularities after the allocation of funds or in the investment of the subsidy by any of the recipient entities, the competent authority will suspend the association as a beneficiary and may initiate legal actions.
