Argentina's Consumer Goods Imports Hit Record High

Argentine imports of consumer goods reached a historic record of $8.376 billion in the accumulated January-September 2025 period. This amount surpasses the previous 2018 record by $1.693 billion, representing a 25.3% increase over that period. In September 2025 alone, consumer goods imports totaled $1.157 billion. In relative terms, these goods represent 14.6% of total imports, standing 4.1 percentage points above the same period in 2023. The report, based on a survey by the CEPA Center, analyzed the evolution, identifying the companies that most increased their purchases and the dynamics of the industrial sectors affected by this widespread expansion. The sector of Household appliances, batteries, and lamps experienced the biggest jump, increasing by 217.7% versus 2023, and representing 8.4% of the total. While imports of household appliances grew 217.7%, national production of computers, televisions, and communications equipment fell 25.7%. Imports of clothing rose 61.8%, while the production of textile products contracted 18.9%. In the food and beverage sector, national production had a marginal contraction of 0.2%, in contrast to the 49.4% expansion of sector imports. The production of leather goods is 26.8% below the 2023 level, while its imports grew 21.3%. The sectoral analysis also revealed an explosion in the number of importing companies: an increase of 9,235 new firms (+70%) that imported Consumer Goods between January and September 2025, compared to 2023. The report also identifies the companies that concentrate the largest volumes of imports. In Household appliances, batteries, and lamps, the podium is led by PILISAR S.A. (Bosch distributor), which concentrates 14% of the total imported with an increase of 395% vs 2023. It was followed by Frávega with an increase of 3,162%.
