Argentina Announces Four-Day November Weekend to Boost Tourism

The Argentine government has announced a four-day long weekend in November 2025 to boost tourism. The break will extend from Friday, November 21st, to Monday, November 24th. On Friday, November 21st, a non-working day for tourist purposes has been declared. This is the last of three such days the government can establish annually. The core of the holiday is National Sovereignty Day, originally celebrated on Thursday, November 20th, commemorating the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado. To maximize the economic impact on the tourism sector, the holiday has been moved to Monday, November 24th, under Law 27.399, ensuring an extended rest period. On Friday, November 21st, the non-working day is optional for the private sector. If service is provided, employees will receive their regular salary without additional pay, a key difference from a mandatory national holiday. In contrast, Monday, November 24th, will be a mandatory national holiday for all workers, both public and private. This holiday commemorates National Sovereignty Day in memory of the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado, which occurred on November 20, 1845. This battle was a milestone in the defense of Argentine sovereignty over its waterways and territory. Although it was a military defeat for Argentine forces due to the technical superiority of the invaders, the high human and material cost imposed on the foreign fleet demonstrated Argentina's firm will to defend its sovereignty and its right to regulate traffic on its navigable waterways. The government hopes that this four-day period will serve as a successful conclusion to promoting local tourism and regional economies before the year-end change.
