Argentine Government Announces November Pension Bonus of 70,000 Pesos

The Government officially announced this Tuesday the granting of a 70,000 peso pension bonus for November, for retirees and pensioners who receive the minimum benefit, through Decree 771/2025, published in the Official Gazette. In this way, the minimum pensions during October will be 403,150 pesos, since the initial benefit for the tenth month of the year was set at 333,150 pesos, after the 2.1% increase, determined in line with September inflation. Meanwhile, for those beneficiaries whose total active benefits exceed 333,150 pesos but fall below 403,150 pesos, the maximum amount of the Extraordinary Pension Bonus will be equal to the sum needed to reach that figure. In this way, for example, if a retiree receives a benefit of 350,000 pesos, they will only receive a bonus of 53,150 pesos. With the confirmed social assistance, the lowest pensions will increase from 396,298 to 403,150 pesos, which implies an increase of just 6,852 pesos. In the considerations of the regulation, to justify the measure, the Executive referred to the Mobility Index applied since March 2021 by Law No. 27.609, exposing the adverse effects of inflation on the pensions paid under the aforementioned formula. In this sense, the official text pointed out that “the formula established there presented serious and serious inconveniences, as it did not protect against the inflationary risk affecting the benefits of older adults, since it did not contemplate the variation in prices and presented a large gap between the evolution of economic variables and their transfer to benefits, among other issues”. Faced with that diagnosis, different forms of economic pension assistance have been implemented in recent months. Since President Javier Milei took office, two bonuses of 55,000 pesos were granted in the first two months of 2024, and from last March onwards, it was updated to 70,000 pesos. In this regard, the Decree stated that “Law No. 27.609 implied harmful effects for all retirees and pensioners, but mainly regarding those with lower incomes, making it necessary to provide for their maintenance through the granting of economic pension assistance and/or extraordinary monthly pension bonuses of different amounts, from January 2024 and until October 2025, inclusive”. Continuing that line, it expressed that “as compensation for the adverse effects caused by the application of Law No. 27.609 on the pension benefits of older adults with lower incomes, for the month of November 2025 it is considered appropriate to grant an Extraordinary Pension Bonus”. The official document specified that “to receive the present Extraordinary Pension Bonus, the benefits must be active in the same month in which it is liquidated” and specified that the bonus “will have a non-remunerative character and will not be subject to any deduction or computable for any other concept”. Likewise, it provided that “in the case of pension benefits, regardless of the number of co-participants, these must be considered as a single holder for the purposes of the right to receive the Extraordinary Pension Bonus granted by this decree”. Who is entitled to the 70,000 peso bonus in November The Decree detailed that the pension bonus will be granted to: Holders of contributory pension benefits under ANSES. Beneficiaries of the Universal Pension for the Elderly. Beneficiaries of non-contributory pensions for old age, disability, mothers of 7 or more children, and other non-contributory and grace pensions whose payment is under ANSES.
