Reduction of Subsidies to Cinema in Argentina

Aníbal Pachano, choreographer and former juror of 'Bailando por un sueño', generated controversy by celebrating the defunding of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) in an interview with journalist Luis Majul on LN+. Pachano supported the cuts to INCAA subsidies and contests, an organization impacted by government decisions.

In the conversation, Pachano mentioned that he is currently working at Radio Nacional, a public medium that remains active under the management of Javier Milei. The choreographer expressed his opinion on the budget adjustment, commenting on the need to stop depending on subsidies and start working.

Luis Majul and Pachano discussed the Argentine film industry, concluding that a large number of films financed by INCAA had no audience. This stance coincided with the decision to cut funding for the audiovisual sector. As a result of these measures, more than 400 INCAA employees were laid off, and no new films have been made with state support.

Additionally, in an unexpected turn, Argentina will not have representation at the upcoming Cannes Festival. This news reinforces the debate surrounding changes in subsidy and funding policy for national cinema.
