Increase in Benefits and Change in Pensions in Argentina

The pensions of retirees and beneficiaries of the Universal Pension for the Elderly (PUAM) will have a 2.2% increase in March, in line with the inflation recorded in December. The bonus of $70,000 will remain for those receiving the PUAM, raising the total pension to $293,297. This bonus aims to support those receiving the lowest benefits in the pension system and is equivalent to 80% of a minimum pension, serving as an alternative for those without 30 years of contributions.

Beneficiaries of the PUAM will be able to convert this benefit into a pension until March 23, 2025, thanks to the existing pension moratorium. The amount to be received in March will be $293,297.37, applying the mobility formula that adjusts the benefits according to the consumer price index from two months prior. The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, indicated that there will be no additional increase in the ANSES bonus to avoid generating a higher fiscal cost for the State.

Regarding the PUAM in March 2025, the amount to be collected will be $223,297 plus the $70,000 bonus, as confirmed by the National Administration of Social Security (ANSES). Those who choose to convert the PUAM into a pension will have to pay monthly installments until their pension debt is settled, deducted directly from the benefit. Once the pension moratorium is over, the PUAM will be the only option for those who did not meet the contributions required by the Argentine Integrated Pension System (SIPA).
