
According to the statistics of international tourism published by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), Argentina experienced a year-on-year decrease of 20.1% in the number of international tourists entering the country, while the number of people leaving the country increased by 73.2% year-on-year.
In January of this year, 1,040,600 non-resident visitors arrived in Argentina through various means of access. Of these, 672,400 were tourists and 368,100 were excursionists. Brazil, Europe, and Chile were the main countries of origin for these tourists, representing 20%, 18.8%, and 14.4% respectively. The majority of non-resident tourists entered by land (44%), followed by air (43.6%) and river/maritime (12.4%).
Regarding departures abroad, 2,599,600 resident visitors left Argentina in January. Of these, 1,927,300 were tourists and 672,300 were excursionists. The majority of Argentine tourists chose destinations in neighboring countries such as Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. 66.7% of resident tourists left the country by air.
The International Tourism Survey (ETI) revealed that in January of this year there were a total of 262,600 non-resident tourists, indicating a decrease of 14.7% compared to the previous year. In contrast, residents traveling abroad increased by 46.1%. Most tourists arriving at the international airports of Ezeiza and Jorge Newbery came from Europe and the United States and Canada.
Argentine tourists preferred destinations in Brazil and the rest of America for their trips abroad. In total, the balance between the arrivals of non-resident tourists and the departures of resident tourists was negative by 130,400 in the month of January.
