Argentina Eases Cement Import Regulations

The national government has decided to relax the regulations related to the importation and production of cement with the aim of achieving a reduction in domestic prices. This measure was announced through Resolution 26/2025 of the Secretary of Industry and Commerce, recently published in the Official Bulletin.

According to this resolution, test reports and international certificates from recognized organizations in highly regulated countries and neighboring countries such as Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay will be accepted. This measure aims to reduce the costs associated with the evaluation of product conformity and expedite processes by avoiding the double certification procedures that caused significant delays.

The relaxation of the regulations applies to several types of cement, including those for general use, with special properties, intended for high-performance road application concrete (TAR), and for masonry. Additionally, it is established that national and foreign certificates issued by accredited certification bodies will be valid for marketing in the country, avoiding the duplication of tests and controls that have already been verified by international plants.

In an official statement, it was emphasized that this government initiative aims to eliminate the bureaucratic obstacles that hindered the importation of cement, with the intention of fostering competition in the sector and contributing to the reduction of prices in the domestic market.
