Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced that Javier Milei's government achieved a primary and financial surplus amid criticism for the president's promotion of the 'Viva la Libertad Project' on his social media, whose currency, $Libra, collapsed, resulting in million-dollar losses. Caputo reported that a primary surplus of 2,434,865 million was recorded in January and a financial surplus of nearly 600,000 million, clarifying that this was achieved after the elimination of taxes and tariffs.
In this context, the minister used his account to highlight the announcement and reiterate the importance of the fiscal surplus in the financial line, after paying interest. On the other hand, Milei's intervention caused the $Libra currency, initially valued at US$ 0.000001, to reach a value of US$ 5.20 and then collapse after its developers abandoned the project and withdrew investors' funds.
Caputo met this morning with his relative, presidential advisor Santiago Caputo, at Casa Rosada for more than two hours. Upon leaving, he mentioned that he did not see the president, who had been in his offices since early morning, while clarifying that it was a holiday in the United States to rule out movements in the American Stock Exchange.
