The pharmaceutical sector remains one of the categories with the lowest price increase in Argentina, which helps reduce the level of inflation in the country, according to Cilfa. In the 13 months since January 2024, the prices of medications have increased by 88.8%, while the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has advanced by 122.6% in the same period. This difference places medications 33.8 percentage points below inflation since the beginning of 2024.
During the year 2024, the prices of medications were 32% below inflation, with an additional 0.6% in January 2025. Thus, medications are positioned as the second category with the lowest price increase since the beginning of 2024, which has significantly contributed to the reduction of inflation indices in Argentina. Moreover, medications have experienced much lower growth compared to pensions, which increased by 109% in 2024.
Cilfa emphasized that the pharmaceutical industry continues to support the deflation process in the Argentine economy in 2025 by facilitating access to medications for the population. In January 2025, medications increased by 0.6% less than inflation, totaling 32.6 percentage points below it since 2024. Additionally, in January 2025, the increase in the prices of medications was lower than the increase in pensions, which was 1.9%.
According to a survey conducted by the Argentine Pharmaceutical Laboratories Industrial Chamber, the prices of medications increased by 1.6% in January of this year, remaining below inflation.
