The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) will undergo significant changes in its structure starting in March. The current CEO of ALTA, José Ricardo Botelho, will be replaced by Peter Cerda, who currently serves as Vice President for the Americas at the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Cerda will hold both positions, which essentially implies a merger between ALTA and IATA in the region.
According to a released statement, Botelho joined ALTA in June 2020 and has successfully led the association during a challenging period, achieving significant growth and overcoming obstacles caused by the pandemic. Under his leadership, ALTA has reached various milestones that have contributed to the advancement of commercial aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Peter Cerda will take over as Executive Director and CEO of ALTA starting March 15. It is noted that the decision for Cerda to consolidate both positions aims to strengthen the management and joint work of ALTA and IATA in the region. It is expected that under Cerda's leadership, ALTA will begin a new phase of collaboration and commitment with local governments, highlighting the benefits of air transport for Latin America and the Caribbean.
