The National Government confirmed that the pension moratorium established by Law 27.705 will end in March and will not be extended. From that date, individuals who do not have the required 30 years of contributions will not be able to access ordinary retirement. This moratorium allowed those who reached retirement age but did not meet the required years of contributions to retire through a payment plan.
There is time until March 23 to join the pension moratorium payment plan with the aim of regularizing outstanding contributions and proceeding with retirement. Those who apply for the benefit without having completed the 30 years of contributions but exceed the minimum retirement age will be credited with one year of contributions for every two years that exceed this limit. If a person does not manage to enter the moratorium, they can access the Universal Pension for the Elderly (PUAM) or opt for ordinary retirement, depending on their particular situation.
The PUAM is a pension from ANSES intended for individuals over 65 years of age who lack a retirement or pension. Equivalent to 80% of the minimum pension, those wishing to access this benefit must meet certain requirements. Among these are having the required minimum age, being Argentine or naturalized with a certain number of years of residence in the country, or being a foreigner with a minimum established residence. They will not be able to collect or have the right to another pension, retirement, or unemployment insurance, and must maintain residence in Argentina. Socioeconomic evaluation will be decisive for accessing the PUAM.
