The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic approved payments in dollars with debit cards and QR, as well as the possibility of paying in pesos or dollars with scheduled DEBIN, according to Communication "A" 8180/2025 published in the Official Bulletin. This measure aims to facilitate transactions in dollars through debit, offering an alternative to other payment methods.
According to official sources, there will be no currency exchange in payments in dollars with debit cards, and both the payer and the merchant must have a dollar account. Payments in dollars will be made without exchange and can be made in fixed installments in pesos or dollars with a single authorization.
MartÃn Kaplan, CEO of Prisma Medios de Pago, emphasized that users will be able to use their dollars deposited in their savings accounts to pay in stores in Argentina through their debit cards. The merchants, for their part, will be able to receive their sales in dollars, which they can later use for their expenses.
The payment method in installments with debit or in dollars implies individual adherence for each payment plan, which must be initiated by the customer and accepted by the receiving merchant. This adherence takes immediate effect after authorization, and account summaries must identify the debits as "scheduled DEBIN," detailing the amount and the corresponding installment.
The resolution establishes that reversals and chargebacks will only apply to the first installment, and customers can request cancellation of the plan at any time. However, scheduled DEBIN cannot be used in areas such as lotteries, casinos, and gambling. The measure will come into effect from April 1, 2025, and is not mandatory for all merchants.
