Inflation in Argentina Remains at 2-2.5% for January

According to private consulting firms, Argentina's inflation for January is projected to remain between 2% and 2.5%. This reflects a significant deceleration from the previous month, largely impacted by food prices, particularly beef. The national government is set to release the Consumer Price Index on February 13th, which will provide official figures for the month.

According to surveys from private consultancies, inflation for January is estimated to be between 2% and 2.5%. The Libertad & Progreso Foundation predicts an index of 2%, which represents a reduction of 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous month. Throughout the month, a trend towards deceleration was observed, with weekly variations around 0.3%, although at the end of January it accelerated to 0.5% mainly driven by the increase in meat prices.

On the other hand, Equilibria estimates that inflation will be at 2.1% for January. In December, inflation was 2.7%, and the annual accumulated for 2024 closed at 117.8%.

In a context where prices for services such as electricity, gas, rent, water, prepaid medical care, and fuels have risen, private consultancies estimate that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Indec will be between 2% and 2.5%. Empiria forecasts a 2.5% inflation rate, highlighting that regulated goods and services increased by nearly 2%, marking a significant deceleration compared to the previous month.

LCG estimates a 2% inflation rate, although it points out that the figure is halved when considering a four-week period. Meanwhile, EcoGo predicts a 2.3% inflation rate, due to higher-than-expected food price increases and rises in the 'labor' sector of the Consumer Confidence Index and in cigarettes. Analytica also agrees with a forecast of 2.3%, especially due to the deceleration in the rise of food and beverage prices that they recorded in their measurements.

The previous year closed with an inflation rate of 117.8%. The national government plans to publish the CPI for January on Thursday, February 13.
